I’ve been listening to Radio plays for over ten years, but the one that inspired me to write my own was Marcy Kahan’s Victorville, broadcast back in the late 90s.
Victorville has a very simple structure and is told in realtime, one continuous scene. It tells the story of a (fictional) script conference during the making of Citizen Kane, and has scriptwriter Herman J Mankiewicz, producer John Houseman and director Orson Welles arguing over how the film will work and (finally) who they’ll get to play Kane.
