Leaving Mallingry is my entry for the 2011 Write a Novel in a Month project. It was inspired by an exceptionally rude shop assistant in a toy shop somewhere in England, the John Cleese of the retail world: literally, a man running a toyshop who doesn’t like children.
The story opens in the small market town of Mallingry, where young lovers Pauline and Graham are tragically torn apart by the machinations of the mysterious Mr Higby. Unfortunately, Mr Higby is involved in several murky affairs in the town and his potential exposure leads to various local worthies taking extreme action.
